Arab Police Department
Ed Ralston, has been employed with the Arab Police Department for 31 years, the last eight years he has been the Chief of Police. He began flying in April 2014 when the department and the fire department each purchased a DJI Phantom 2. The Phantom 2 was purchased on spontaneous whim and was mainly on the suggestion of the Arab Fire Chief. The sUAS was primarily used for small projects for the City of Arab. “We quickly began to see the benefits of having a sUAV and as technology advanced we decided to purchase a DJI Mavic Pro in late 2017. I received my Part 107 license in May of 2018 and I am the Chief Pilot for our department”. Say Chief Ralston
In January of 2019, they added to to the fleet of sUAV's with the purchase of a Matrice 210, a Z30 lens, an XT2 FLIR and a set of Liminell lights. With just over 300 flights, Ed has now flown for numerous other agencies to include Law Enforcement, Fire and EMA. He has been able to be involved in multi-jurisdictional and multi-agency scenarios through involvement with GEOHuntsville which has been very rewarding.
